Flotsam & Jetsam (10/5)

An earlier-than-usual F&J, since I’ll be posting the winner of the One Year Giveaway tomorrow…

Steve Jobs, 1955-2011 – The co-founder, chairman, and former chief executive of Apple, Inc., passed away today after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.

A Review and a Giveaway – This month, Persis is giving away two copies of Dan Phillip’s The World-Tilting Gospel. Awesome, right? The winners will be drawn on October 12, so hop on over to her blog and enter without further delay.

More Than Conquerers – Gregg shares a great quote from Dr. Martin Lloyd Jones.

Master’s Handiwork Photography -A friend of mine was kind enough to give my movie review site a shout-out on her blog, so I’m gonna return the favor by asking you to hop over to her photography blog and take a look. And while you’re there, why don’t you let her know what picture she should use for her blog button? (pssst, pick #1, pick #1!)

Cook Book Fail – Funny stuff. And when you’re done laughing at it, here’s another one. (HT Dan Phillips)

Reel Quick – Click here to read my review of the excellent drama/comedy
Win Win (2010), starring Paul Giamatti. Highly recommended.

Hitler Killed Disabled Children – … and so do we.

“A wise saying is something you keep picking up off the
floor in front of your fridge.” ~ Robert Brault

Flotsam & Jetsam (10/4)

The Danger of Modern Gospel – Lengthy? yes. Worth watching? Double yes. (HT Nikko)

“Charity” Towards Heresy? – Spurgeon strikes again! “From what I see of their writings and their teachings, it appears to me that the modern thinkers treat the whole compass of revealed truth with entire indifference; and, though perhaps they may feel sorry that wilder spirits should go too far in free thinking, and though they had rather they would be more moderate, yet, upon the whole, so large is their liberality that they are not
sure enough of anything to be able to condemn the reverse of it as a deadly
error.”

Punctuation Saves Lives! – It’s true.

Reel Quick – Click here to read my review of the excellent sci-fi thriller Marooned (1969); and for a change of genres, click here to read my review of Spider-Man 2 (2004), a sequel which, frankly, leaves its predecessor in the dust.

Is Jesus Your Role Model? – Short. To the point. And very convicting.

180 Movie – Take time to watch it. You won’t regret it. (As a sidenote, parental discretion is strongly advised due to mature themes and graphic images. This isn’t for the kiddos.)

“A minister may fill his pews, his communion roll, the mouths of the public, but what that minister is on his knees in secret before God Almighty, that he is and no more.”
~ John Owen

Truthful Love

“The person who loves you most will tell you the most truth. One of the greatest distinguishing marks of a false prophet is that he will always tell you what you want to hear – he will never rain on your parade, he will get you clapping, he will get you jumping, he will make you dizzy, he will keep you entertained, and he will present a Christianity to you that will make your church look like a Six Flags over Jesus. And keep you so entertained you are never addressed with great issues such as these: Is God working in my life? Am I growing in holiness? Have I truly been born again?”

~ Paul Washer
